Josef "Bulda" Musil (born July 3, 1932 in Kostelní Lhota , † August 26, 2017 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovak volleyball player .

life and career

Musil started playing volleyball at his hometown club Sokol Kostelní Lhota at the age of nine. In 1946 Musil moved with his family to Prague, where he played for the Sokol Vysočany club. In 1949 he was with the team of Czechoslovak junior champions. At the beginning of the 1950s, Musil was appointed to the national team and won his first medal at a world championship in 1952 . He was on the national team for 16 years. In the championship game, Musil was Czechoslovakian national champion seven times and Italian national champion once.

Musil was named Czech volleyball player of the century in 2001. In a poll by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball for Player of the Century, Musil came in eighth.

On the occasion of the local anniversary, Musil was made an honorary citizen of Kostelní Lhota on June 19, 2004 . That same year, Musil was inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame on September 2 in Holyoke, Massachusetts .
