Because of his political attitude, the father decided to emigrate to America . In 1850, 19-year-old Joseph was sent to America. It was his job to build a new home for the family. He chose Williamsburg .

The rest of the Liebmann family followed in 1854. In the same year, Samuel Liebmann signed a one-year lease for the Maasche Brewery on Meserole Street, which he took over as head. It was renamed S. In 1868 Liebmann opened the Obermeyer and Liebmann Havana Brewery with his brother-in-law David Obermeyer. This operated independently of the Liebmann brewery in the following years and was connected to it in 1924.

After their father's death in 1872, his sons took over management of the brewery and renamed it S. Liebmann's Sons Brewery. In the years that followed, the Liebmann brothers changed positions as Chief Executive Officers each year. Joseph Liebmann was primarily responsible for financial matters.

In 1876 Liebmann was a member of the committee responsible for organizing the brewery exhibition at the Centennial Exhibition .

His daughter Sadie married the hop trader Samuel S. Steiner in 1895. This family relationship contributed to the rise of the company.
