Joseph Mwongela

Joseph Maluki Mwongela (born April 7, 1968 in Kakumi , Kenya ) is a Kenyan clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Kitui .

Life

Joseph Mwongela completed the Theological Propaedeutic in the Diocese of Nakuru in 1989 and then studied at the seminaries in Mabanga in the Diocese of Bungoma and in Nairobi . On September 7, 1996, he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Kitui .

After working in pastoral care and as an educator, he was chancellor of the diocesan curia from 1999 to 2001 and then headed the diocesan appointment pastoral until 2003 . From 2003 to 2008 he studied in Rome, where he obtained a degree in dogmatics from the Pontifical Gregorian University in 2005 . In 2008 he was at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in the same subject for Dr. theol. PhD . After returning to his home country, he worked as a hospital chaplain and pastor. From 2014 to 2015 he also headed the St. John Paul II Vocational Training Institute . From 2015 until the beginning of the Sedis vacancy on April 23, 2017, he was vicar general of the diocese of Kitui.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Kitui on March 17, 2020. The Apostolic Nuncio in Kenya, Archbishop Hubertus van Megen , donated him episcopal ordination on August 29 of the same year . Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Nairobi , John Cardinal Njue , and the Archbishop of Nyeri , Anthony Muheria .
