Junior Sornoza , full name Junior Nazareno Sornoza Moreira , (born January 28, 1994 in Portoviejo ) is an Ecuadorian national soccer player . He is used in the position of an attacking midfielder , alternatively also in the left midfield or in the attack. His strong foot is the right one.

Junior Sornoza began his career at Club Cristo Rey before joining the junior division of Independiente del Valle in 2009 . At the club, Sornoza made the leap into the professional squad in 2011. Sornoza played his first Serie A game on August 24, 2011 in the home game against Deportivo Quito . In the game he was substituted on in the 62nd minute. Sornoza scored his first goal in the competition at home on September 25, 2011 against Club Sport Emelec . In the 5-0 victory, he scored the 2-0 in the 27th minute and the 4: 9 in the 43rd minute. In 2013 Sornoza was able to establish himself as a regular player and made his debut at international club level with Independiente . In the Copa Sudamericana 2013 , his club met Deportivo Anzoátegui in the first round at home . In the game on August 1, 2013, Sornoza was in the starting line-up. In the Copa Libertadores 2014 he met with Independiente in the first game of the group stage at home on Unión Española from Chile . On May 2, 2015, the 16th matchday, he scored the first time for Pachuca in the goal. In the home game against Santos Laguna , he scored the 1-0 (2: 3) in the 36th minute. After half a year, Sornoza returned to Independiente and was immediately able to assert himself again as a regular. Another highlight in his career occurred in 2016. Both signed a contract with Fluminense Rio de Janeiro . FLU acquired 60% of the transfer rights for seven million reals. Sornoza's contract had a term of three years. Sornoza made his debut for FLU in Primeira Liga do Brasil in 2017 . In the opening game against Criciúma EC on March 24, 2017, he was in the starting line-up. The player scored his first competitive goal in the state championship in Rio de Janeiro . In the home game against Macaé EFC on March 26, 2017, Sornoza scored 2-0 (3-0) in the 52nd minute. Arboleda made his debut in the Brazilian Série A on the first day of the 2017 season . In the home game against FC Santos on May 13, 2017, he was not only in the starting line-up, but also scored his first goal in the league. He got the goal in the 58th minute for a 3-1 lead (3-2). Another move from Sornoza was announced at the end of December 2018.

The player was sold to Corinthians São Paulo . He made his competitive debut for Corinthians in the state championship of São Paulo in the home game against AD São Caetano on January 20, 2019. Sornoza won the state championship with the club. He played a total of 46 games that year (twelve games in the national championship, eight games in the 2019 Copa do Brasil , 20 in the 2019 championship and six in the 2019 Copa Sudamericana , where he scored a goal). For the 2020 season, Sornoza was loaned to his home country at the LDU Quito .

National team

Sornoza was already active in the youth division of the Ecuadorian national team . He took part with the U-17 in the U-17 South American Football Championship 2011 and in the U-17 World Cup 2011 .

Two years later he became a member of the U-20 team at the 2013 U-20 South American Football Championship .

In 2014 he was appointed to the national team for the first time. In September of that year was part of the team in friendly matches against the teams from Brazil and Bolivia. In the first game against Bolivia on September 6, 2014, Sornoza came on for Joao Rojas in the 77th minute and scored the goal in the 84th minute to make it 4-0.

In the same year, Sornoza was twice in the squad to qualify for the 2014 World Cup , but did not appear.

It was only after the 2018 World Cup that Sornoza returned to friendly matches against Jamaica and Oman in October 2018.
