Juuso Puustinen (born April 5, 1988 in Kuopio ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK Sibir Novosibirsk in the Continental Hockey League since May 2019 .
Career
Juuso Puustinen began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of KalPa Kuopio , where he was active until 2006. In the 2006 NHL Entry Draft , the winger was selected in the fifth round in a total of 149th place by the Calgary Flames . He then moved to North America to join the Kamloops Blazers from the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League , where he was the best scorer in 2008. He also played a few games for the Finnish U20 national team in the Mestis , the second Finnish division.
From 2008 to 2010 Pustinen played for the Espoo Blues in the SM-liiga and took part in the 2008/09 season with his team at European level in the Champions Hockey League . For the 2010/11 season he moved to HPK Hämeenlinna within the SM-liiga . He was then signed by the Nashville Predators from the National Hockey League , for whose farm team Milwaukee Admirals he played in the American Hockey League between 2011 and 2013 . He then returned to Finland, where he worked for Helsingfors IFK until 2017 .
In the 2017/18 season he played for JYP Jyväskylä and won the Champions Hockey League with JYP before he and his teammate Joonas Nättinen were signed by Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk from the Continental Hockey League in May 2018 . For Neftechimik he completed 53 KHL games, in which he scored 20 goals and 17 assists. He also took part in the KHL All-Star Game 2019. In May 2019 he moved to HK Sibir Novosibirsk within the KHL .
International
Puustinen made his debut in the Finnish national team in 2006 in the U18 team, where he won the silver medal at the World Cup . At the U20 Junior World Championship in 2008 he was also in the squad.
