Eric O'Dell (born June 21, 1990 in Ottawa , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK Sibir Novosibirsk from the Continental Hockey League (KHL) since June 2020 and plays there in the position of the center .

Career

O'Dell first played in the lower class junior leagues around his hometown Ottawa before he joined the Sudbury Wolves from the Ontario Hockey League in the 2007/08 season. At the end of the season he was then selected in the second round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in 39th place by the Anaheim Ducks from the National Hockey League . The Ducks did not sign the striker in the episode, so he initially stayed with the Sudbury Wolves until 2011. He made his professional debut at the end of the 2009/10 season in the jersey of the Chicago Wolves from the American Hockey League . A few months later, the Atlanta Thrashers signed the center.

After the Thrashers were transferred to the Winnipeg Jets in summer 2011 , O'Dell's contract rights also changed to the Jets. So he played the following four years mainly for their farm team , the St. John's IceCaps , in the AHL. Between 2013 and 2015 he also made 41 appearances in the NHL for the Jets. In the summer of 2015, O'Dell returned to the Ottawa Senators as a free agent in his hometown . For this, however, he was only used for the farm team, the Binghamton Senators . In February 2016 he was then given in a seven-player transfer deal to the Buffalo Sabers . There he was active exclusively for the Rochester Americans in the AHL until the end of the season . After his expiring contract was not renewed, he moved to the Continental Hockey League in August 2016 . There he signed a one-year contract with HK Sochi , which was extended for another two years in April 2017. At HK sochi, he increased his points yield from year to year and was appointed assistant captain in 2017. His contract in Sochi expired in May 2019 and O'Dell decided to move to HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk , where he stayed for a season. He then moved to league rivals HK Sibir Novosibirsk in June 2020 .

International

On the international stage, O'Dell represented his home country at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2008 in Kazan , Russia , where the team won the gold medal by beating hosts Russia 8-0 in the final. The attacker scored one goal in seven tournament games and prepared three more. He made his debut for the senior national team at the 2018 Winter Olympics , where he won the bronze medal with the team.
