The Christian Democratic People's Party ( Hungarian Kereszténydemokrata Néppárt , KDNP ) is a Hungarian party . In 1989 it was officially re-established; However, this was done with reference to the People's Democratic Party of the pre-socialist era. The new founders of the KDNP, T. Füzessy and J. Ugrin , worked in the old People's Party from 1945 to 1948. After it was re-established, it received between 5 and 10% of the vote in the 1990s . One problem that has accompanied the KDNP since its re-establishment was the age structure of its voters. According to party data, over 50% of their voters were retired in the 1990s . Since the parliamentary elections in 2006 , the party entered into an electoral alliance with the right-wing conservative Fidesz - Hungarian Citizens Association . In the meantime they have merged into a right-wing party alliance, with Fidesz adding the name as a suffix. Since the 2010 election , the Fidesz-KDNP party has had a two-thirds majority in parliament (133 out of 199 seats).

Political orientation

After its re-establishment, the Christian Democratic People's Party was a moderate Christian Democratic party that united different facets from Christian-social to national-conservative . Since György Giczy took over the chairmanship in 1994, it has developed into a national-conservative , right-wing populist and Catholic fundamentalist party. The current chairman is Zsolt Semjén .
