Surname

The original name Kaldeberg consists of two parts that are related to the geographical location. Kaltenberg lies above the Kahl ( mhd. Kalde) on the mountainside (mhd. Bërc). For the origin of the name Kahl see Name der Kahl . The place is called "Kaldeberch" in the dialect of Kahlgründer .

history

The village belonged to the community of Schimborn until April 30, 1978. The former Kaltenberger Mühle , also called Heege-Mertes-Mühle, is on the other side of the Kahl.

Until 1772, Kaltenberg was the administrative center of the Mainz spa state . There was a high school in office for over 80 years . In 1783 the Kaltenberg office was downgraded to a bailiff without a treasurer . When the area came to Bavaria in 1814 , the Royal Bavarian Regional Court with a regional judge was established in the official building .

On July 1, 1862, the Alzenau District Office was formed, on whose administrative territory Kaltenberg lay. In 1939, as everywhere in the German Reich, the designation district was introduced. Kaltenberg now belonged to the Alzenau district in Lower Franconia . With the dissolution of the Alzenau district in 1972, Kaltenberg came into the newly formed Aschaffenburg district .
