Karl August von Elster

Karl August von Elster (born August 28, 1734 in the camp near Cussolle, † August 20, 1802 in Opole ) was a Prussian major general and most recently the commandant of Cosel .

Life

origin

His father was a captain from the Electoral Saxony and later governor, his mother was a Countess von Colloredo .

Military career

Elster became a cadet in Berlin on May 16, 1755 and then joined the No. 1 Dragoon Regiment on August 28, 1756 as a non-commissioned officer . During the Seven Years' War he fought in the battles of Prague , Kolin , Breslau , Liegnitz , Torgau and Reichenbach . He was also at the surrender of the Saxons at Pirna and the sieges of Prague, Dresden and Olomouc. At that time he became ensign on March 11, 1757 and second lieutenant on September 29, 1758 .

On May 28, 1769 he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant and on October 14, 1772 to Chief of Staff. In the War of the Bavarian Succession , Elster fought in a battle in Brüx. For this he received the order Pour le Mérite on February 11, 1779 . On November 3, 1783, he became major and company commander in Cuirassier Regiment No. 12 . Then on June 22, 1788 he was transferred to the cuirassier regiment No. 9 , for a good review he received on July 7, 1788 a gift from 100 Friedrichsdor . On October 16, 1790 he became lieutenant colonel and on January 31, 1793 colonel with a patent from February 1, 1793. On October 19, 1796 Elster was then appointed commander of the cuirassier regiment No. 9 and on May 20, 1801 promoted to major general. But he was already seriously ill. Therefore, Elster was appointed commander of the Cosel Fortress on August 9, 1802 with a salary of 1700 thalers. He died a short time later on August 20, 1802 in Opole.

Elster married on April 6, 1780 in Greifenhagen / Oder Karoline Katharina Elisabeth Charlotte von Seydlitz (* 1760; † January 3, 1809). The couple had several children including:
