Andreas Dietrich Freiherr von Schleinitz (born February 3, 1738 in Canitz ; † July 13, 1808 in Seehausen ) was a Prussian major general and chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 2 .

Life

His parents were Andreas Dietrich von Schleinitz (* October 20, 1684; † December 13, 1749), heir to Zölichau, Mautitz and Canitz, and his wife Christiane Friederike, born von Lüttichau (* 1700; † June 10, 1742) from the House Ulbersdorf.

Military career

Schleinitz came in 1756 as a standard junker in the cuirassier regiment No. 7 of the Prussian army . During the Seven Years' War he fought in the battles near Prague , Kolin , Roßbach , Leuthen , Kay and Kunersdorf . He also took part in the siege of Schweidnitz and in the battle near Maxen. At that time he became a cornet on July 12, 1757 with a patent from January 15, 1758 and then on November 25, 1762 lieutenant . On May 24, 1776, he was staff officer and on January 13, 1778 Rittmeister and company commander . As such, Schleinitz took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On May 30, 1786 he became a major . In 1787 he joined the expeditionary force that was supposed to fight the unrest in Holland .

During the First Coalition War Schleinitz fought in the cannonade of Valmy , the siege of Mainz and the battles of Pirmasens and Kaiserslautern . On January 18, 1793 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on September 17, 1793 he received the order Pour le Mérite for Pirmasens . On January 19, 1795 he was promoted to colonel and on March 7, 1797 appointed regimental commander. On March 20, 1802 he became chief of the Cuirassier Regiment No. 2 and on May 20, 1802 he was promoted to major general. At the War of the Fourth Coalition he was not allowed to participate. Instead, he received his resignation on October 17, 1805 with a pension of 1000 thalers.

On November 2, 1805, he received permission to wear the uniform of his old regiment, but not the general uniform, which was to be reserved for active generals. Schleinitz died unmarried on July 13, 1808 in Seehausen.
