Karl Belleville

Karl Belleville (born August 5, 1846 in Neu-Ulm , † February 1, 1914 in Munich ) was a Bavarian major general .

Life

family

Belleville was the son of a Bavarian major on the genius staff . He married Elisabeth von Baldinger in 1881. The marriage had two children.

Military career

After graduating from the Cadet Corps , he was employed on August 25, 1865 as a Junker in the 1st Artillery Regiment of the Bavarian Army . As a second lieutenant , Belleville took part in the battles near Helmstadt and Roßbrunn in 1866 during the war against Prussia . In the war against France in 1870/71 he fought as first lieutenant of the Kartätsch battery "Graf Thürheim" in the battle near Artenay and was wounded by a shot in the left shin during the battle of Coulmiers . Belleville was briefly captured by the French and, after its liberation, was still used in the Battle of Orléans . For his achievements during the war he was awarded the Iron Cross II. Class and the Knight's Cross II. Class of the Order of Military Merit with Swords.

From 1872 to 1875, Belleville graduated from the War Academy , which he graduated without special assessment. In 1877 he was appointed adjutant for the inspection of the artillery and the train. Promoted to captain on November 3, 1880 , Belleville returned to service and became chief of the 6th Company of the 1st Foot Artillery Regiment "Bothmer" . From October 24, 1884 to February 14, 1886 , he was in command of the War Ministry , was then chief of the 4th Company, was appointed major and staff officer on October 31, 1888 , and commander of the 2nd Battalion on December 19, 1888. Belleville gave up this command on May 9, 1891 and became an artillery officer from the place of Fortress Germersheim . Since 1893 lieutenant colonel , he came two years later as head of the central office to inspect the foot artillery . In the following year, promoted to colonel and appointed head of section, Belleville finally rose on October 28, 1897 to the command of the 1st foot artillery regiment "vacant Bothmer". After this command he returned on June 20, 1898 as head of the section to inspect the foot artillery, was promoted to major general there on February 19, 1899 and put up for disposition on September 27 of the same year .
