Karl Breetz

Karl August Friedrich Breetz (born October 16, 1797 in Darz , † June 22, 1881 in Glogau ) was a Prussian major general .

Karl was a son of the bailiff of Darz Friedrich Gotthard Breetz and his wife Wilhelmine, née Besserer.

Life

Breetz occurred during the War of Liberation in 1813 as a volunteer fighter in the Body of Infantry Regiment of the Prussian army one. He took part in the battles at Großgörschen , Bautzen , Colditz , Königswartha , Siegersdorf, Ober-Graupen, Dresden , Leipzig and Brienne . Near Paris he was wounded in the right side by a bayonet stab and was awarded the Iron Cross II class and, for Vitry , the Order of St. George V class.

After Breetz 1814 as a sergeant in the 2nd Guards Regiment of Foot had been transferred, it was mid-January 1815 Portepeefähnrich in reserve battalion no. 12 and was promoted in mid-May 1815 second lieutenant . On July 23, 1816 he was aggregated to the 1st Infantry Regiment and assigned to February 13, 1818. By the end of August 1836, Breetz rose to captain and company commander . Under promotion to Major took place on 18 July 1844 he was appointed commander of the III. Battalions in the 19th Landwehr Regiment. In the same capacity, from the end of March 1846, it was used in the 18th Infantry Regiment . Breetz was briefly commanded from mid-May 1846 to mid-August 1847 as leader of the 5th combined reserve battalion. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel at the end of March 1852 , was appointed commander of the 4th Infantry Regiment on February 17, 1853 and promoted to colonel on March 22, 1853 . On May 7, 1857, he was appointed commander of Glatz , and on June 6, 1857, he was also placed à la suite of the 4th Infantry Regiment. On September 18, 1858, he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, Second Class with Oak Leaves. He married on January 5, 1827 in Pillau Aline Dorothea Kittlitz (1808-1830), a daughter of the Pillau shipowner Gerhard Kittlitz († 1824). After her untimely death, on September 20, 1833 in Königsberg , he married Luise Sophie Bertha Kalau vom Hofe (1813–1889), a daughter of Lieutenant Colonel Johann Friedrich Kalau vom Hofe (1789–1862).
