Karl Brenk
Karl Brenk (born November 9, 1904 in Hamburg , † April 9, 1989 in Berlin ) was a German actor .
Life
Karl Brenk comes from a Hamburg working class family and made his debut as a seven-year-old choirboy at the Hamburg Opera House . For financial reasons, however, he was denied artistic training at the time, so that he initially worked in a woodworking factory. With his savings he paid for his training at a drama school in Dresden.
At the beginning of the 1930s he founded the “collective Hamburg actors” together with colleagues, but was increasingly affected by unemployment with the rise of National Socialism. After the Second World War he started his artistic career, played on various Berlin stages, worked for radio and for film and television. For the children's program on Radio DDR I, he achieved particular popularity with the personification of Captain Brise in the Butzemannhaus .
In the early 1950s, he made his debut with a small role in Martin Hellberg's DEFA feature film The Condemned Village , followed by supporting roles in other film and television roles for DEFA and television in the GDR . He had bigger roles u. a. in the personification of Walter Ulbricht in Kurt Maetzig's Ernst Thälmann - leader of his class from 1955, as well as Franz Büchner in Frank Beyer's censored contemporary film Spur der Steine from 1966.
