Life

Origin and family

Karl Gustav von Goßler was a son of the Public Prosecutor General and Real Secret Chief Justice Conrad Christian Goßler (1769–1842) and Anna Charlotte Cuny (1780–1810). He came from the Goßler family and founded the second line of the noble family. His brother was among others the Minister of State Albert von Goßler (1st line of the noble family), the District Administrator Eugen von Goßler (3rd line of the noble family) his stepbrother and the composer Clara von Goßler (1827–1864) his step-sister .

Karl Gustav von Goßler married Sophie von Mühler (1816–1877), the daughter of the Prussian State and Justice Minister Heinrich Gottlob von Mühler, in Berlin in 1837 . From this marriage came eleven children, six of them sons (two sons died in infancy):

The daughter Sophie von Goßler (1845–1879) married the later President of the Higher Regional Court and Chancellor in the Kingdom of Prussia Karl Ludwig von Plehwe . Another daughter Luise von Goßler (* 1852) was married to the Prussian Major General Alfred Brausewetter (1838–1914) and was the mother of Writer Frieda Magnus-Unzer . Career

Karl Gustav von Goßler studied in Berlin , Heidelberg and Königsberg Jura . began his career in 1832 as a trainee lawyer at the Potsdam Court of Appeal , became an assessor there in 1835 , but switched to the Naumburg Higher Regional Court in the same year and in 1838 was appointed regional and city court director as a district judicial councilor at the Weißenfels city ​​court . In 1844 he took over the same position in Merseburg and in 1846 in Potsdam. There he became director of the Potsdam District Court in 1849 and met the then court assessor Theodor Storm in 1854 , who later went on to associate with his stepsister Clara. On the recommendation of his relative Wilhelm von Merckel , Karl Gustav von Goßler had hired Theodor Storm, supported him professionally and moved him to his family, e. B. through readings.

From 1854 he was appointed to the Prussian mansion for life through his " Prussian state offices " .

In 1855 he became vice-president of the court of appeal in Königsberg. In 1864 he became president of the court of appeal in Insterburg and in 1868 senior tribunal councilor in Königsberg.

In 1869 he became State Chancellor and Crown Syndicate of Prussia. Ten years later (1879) he returned to the provincial capital of East Prussia as President of the Königsberg Higher Regional Court . He thus carried the (official) title of "Chancellor of the Kingdom of Prussia". In this position he made a decisive contribution to the standardization of the legal system in Prussia.
