Karl Kirchner (pedagogue, 1787)
Karl Kirchner , also Carl , completely C / Karl Christian Jacob Kirchner (born May 19, 1787 in Herford , † May 31, 1855 in the brine bath Wittekind ) was a German educator.
Life
After attending grammar school in Detmold , he studied at the University of Halle from 1805 , mainly with Christian Gottfried Schütz and August Hermann Niemeyer . Niemeyer had him teach in the Latina of the orphanage at the age of 19 ; After completing his studies, he became a full teacher at the Royal Pedagogy in Halle in 1809 and, under Niemeyer, was the first teacher to lead the institution from 1813.
In 1815, on Niemeyer's recommendation, he was appointed Conrector of the Stralsund grammar school in the Katharinenkloster . After the Rector Furchau's death in 1820, he was his successor, initially on a temporary basis, and from 1825 as director of the grammar school. He brought Prussian standards to the old West Pomeranian institution, soon gained a good reputation and in 1827 received the offer to become director of the Friedrichwerder Gymnasium in Berlin, which he turned down. The University of Greifswald awarded him an honorary doctorate in theology in 1830 .
In 1823 Kirchner wrote the text of an inscription made of two Latin distiches , which used to hang on the portal of the grammar school, then in the first cloister and there today is part of the Kulturhistorisches Museum Stralsund :
- ARDUA TECTA VIDES OPEROSAQUE FULCRA VIATOR
- STA VENERARE DEUS VINDICAT HANCCE DOMUM
- FUNDARAT PIETAS IPSIQUE ET MORIBUS ILLAM
- DOCTRINAEQUE PATRES INSTITUERE SACRAM
- Here you can see hikers, steep roofs and laboring supports.
- Stand and worship; for God calls his this house!
- Piety established this for HIM and also for morals.
- Doctrinal Fathers then built the holy building.
In December 1831 he was appointed as the successor to the late Adolph Gottlob Lange as the rector of the Pforta State School , where he worked until his death and " thanks to his humanity and honesty, his great business acumen and excellent teaching skills, an immortal memory for his fellow officials and students " acquired.
