Life

Niemeyer had him teach in the Latina of the orphanage at the age of 19 ; After completing his studies, he became a full teacher at the Royal Pedagogy in Halle in 1809 and, under Niemeyer, was the first teacher to lead the institution from 1813.

In 1815, on Niemeyer's recommendation, he was appointed Conrector of the Stralsund grammar school in the Katharinenkloster . After the Rector Furchau's death in 1820, he was his successor, initially on a temporary basis, and from 1825 as director of the grammar school. He brought Prussian standards to the old West Pomeranian institution, soon gained a good reputation and in 1827 received the offer to become director of the Friedrichwerder Gymnasium in Berlin, which he turned down. The University of Greifswald awarded him an honorary doctorate in theology in 1830 .
