Karl Richter (cyclist)

Karl Richter (born January 30, 1948 in Chemnitz ) is a former cyclist from the GDR who was active in track cycling .

Athletic career

Karl Richter began cycling in 1962 at BSG Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt , he moved to SC Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1965 , where he a. a. trained with Werner Malitz . He was GDR youth champion in the 3000 meter pursuit. In the men's class, he quickly specialized in short distances such as 1000 meter time trials , sprints and tandem races and won the GDR championship on the tandem twice (1966 with Rainer Marx , 1967 with   Bernd Junge , both also from SC Karl-Marx-Stadt). Two more times he was tandem vice-champion and once third in this discipline, as well as vice-champion in the 1000 meter time trial in 1968. At the sprint championships in 1969, second place behind Jürgen Geschke was his best result, after having finished third in 1968. Karl Richter was nominated as a substitute driver at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , but was never used. At the UCI World Championships on the track, Richter started in the sprint in 1970, but could not place. He ended his career in the summer of 1973.

Professional

Richter completed his training as a motor vehicle mechanic.
