Johann Karl Wilhelm von Götz and Schwanenfließ (born January 22, 1776 in Magdeburg , † December 9, 1858 in Lübben ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

His parents were the Prussian major and commander of the depot battalion in the infantry regiment "Jung-Woldeck" Johann Wilhelm von Götz and Schwanenfließ (* 23 September 1726 - 1 May 1792), and his wife Katharina Wilhelmine Luise, née Stilke (* 8. August 1738 - † January 6, 1782).

Military career

Götz came on September 1, 1787 as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "Jung-Bornstedt" of the Prussian Army and was promoted to prime lieutenant until mid-February 1810 . During the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the Battle of Auerstedt and took part in the retreat to Magdeburg . After the fortress surrendered , he was made inactive with half pay.

After the Peace of Tilsit , Götz rose to staff captain on February 3, 1811 . On March 4, 1813 he came to the III. Battalion of the 1st West Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 6 . There he became a captain and company commander on June 30, 1813 . During the Wars of Liberation he was wounded in the Battle of Großgörschen and was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. In Bautzen , he was wounded again. In the battle of the Katzbach he was lucky enough not to be wounded, but that left him near Leipzig , because there he was wounded again. He later fought at Ligny and Belle Alliance . For Belle Alliance he received the Iron Cross First Class. Götz took part in the battles near Bunzlau, Haynau , Braunau, Löwenberg and Hochkirch, made the transition near Wartenburg and the bombardment of La Fère . At that time he was promoted to major on September 24, 1813 and appointed battalion commander on June 8, 1814.

After the war he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1817 , and on May 9, 1817, he was transferred to the 12th Infantry Regiment (2nd Brandenburg) as commander. In this position he was promoted to colonel on March 30, 1824 and Götz was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III on September 22, 1827 . Class excellent. With the statutory pension he was granted his departure on March 26, 1832 . On May 15, 1832 Götz received the character of major general. He died on December 9, 1858 in Lübben.

He married on April 15, 1826 in Groß Jehser near Calau Karoline Friederike Freiin von Patow (* August 1, 1797, † October 19, 1877), a sister of the politician Robert von Patow . The couple had several children:
