Karl Georg Anton Friedrich Freiherr von Hanstein (born October 27, 1809 in Ershausen-Unterhof , † July 1, 1877 in Königsberg i. Pr. ) Was a Prussian major general .

Life

Origin and family

Karl came from the Eichsfeld noble family of the Barons von Hanstein . His parents were the major a. D. Friedrich Adoplf Heinrich Christian Franz Freiherr von Hanstein (1771–1838) and Friderike Charlotte, née Freiin von Fresin (1788–1848).

He married in 1839 in Königsberg i. Pr. With Hermine Jeanette Mathilde von Barnekow (1812-1856).

Career

Hanstein joined the 1st Infantry Regiment in 1825 . He was promoted to Portepeefähnrich in 1827 and to Second Lieutenant in 1828 . In 1838 he was assigned to the Infantry Training Battalion. His promotion to prime lieutenant in 1844 was followed by promotion to captain and company commander in the 1st Infantry Regiment. With his promotion to major he was also commander of the III. Battalion in Tilst of the 1st Landwehr Regiment. In 1858 he moved to the 3rd Infantry Regiment and was honored in 1859 with the Order of the Red Eagle, 4th class. from June to September 1860 he was director of the combined division school of the 1st Army Corps . After Hanstein was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1860 , he became commander of Infantry Regiment No. 16 in 1861 and received the Order of the Red Eagle III in the same year. Class with ribbon and rose to colonel . Hanstein received his departure with the character of major general and pension in 1865.
