Johann Karl von Hertzberg , since 1786 Count von Hertzberg (born September 19, 1731 in Herford , † May 29, 1798 in Glatz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and chief of the infantry regiment "von Wangenheim" .

Life

His parents were the Prussian captain a. D. , most recently in the “Anhalt-Dessau” infantry regiment and Herr auf Wartenberg and Blumberg Otto Günther von Hertzberg (1687–1756) and his wife Maria Charlotte, née von Lehwaldt (1715–1774). She was the daughter of Field Marshal General Johann von Lehwaldt .

Military career

In 1746 Hertzberg was employed as a private corporal in the "Lehwald" regiment of the Prussian Army . Within the regiment , he was promoted to captain and company commander on December 11, 1762 . During the Seven Years' War he took part in the battles of Groß-Jägersdorf , Zorndorf , Kay and Kunersdorf as well as in the battles near Meißen and Maxen . In the latter, he was captured and exchanged in 1761.

In 1773 Hertzberg became major and commander of the Grenadier Battalion 4/14. The battalion was composed of the grenadier companies of the regiments “Voss” and “Wildau” . By the beginning of May 1785 he was promoted to colonel and commander of the “von Donnersmarck” infantry regiment . At the review on June 8, 1789, Hertzberg was awarded the Order of Pour le Mérite for his longstanding services . On May 11, 1790 he became major general and in October 1790 he received the infantry regiment "von Wangenheim" from King Friedrich Wilhelm II . Six years later he was promoted to lieutenant general and as such he was given a pension of 1200 thalers on September 12, 1797 due to health issues .

When, on September 19, 1786, the Secret State Councilor and Minister Ewald Friedrich von Hertzberg was raised to the rank of count when paying homage to the new King Friedrich Wilhelm II in Prussia, the colonel was also raised.

Hertzberg was married to Albertine Wilhelmine von Hohendorff († 1799), the daughter of Captain Fabian Wilhelm von Hohendorff, since August 4, 1763 . The couple had the following children:
