Karl von Ledebur

Karl Friedrich August Ludwig Freiherr von Ledebur (born May 8, 1795 in Mühlenburg , † June 16, 1860 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and hereditary marshal of Herford .

Life

Karl was a son of the heir to Mühlenburg, Crollage , Vigenburg and Stedefreund Justus Freiherr von Ledebur (1762–1831) and his wife Dorothea, nee Freiin von Rettenberg (1770–1804).

Military career

Ledebur joined the Gardes du Corps regiment of the Prussian Army on June 15, 1812 and was promoted to second lieutenant by mid-February 1813 . As such, he took part in the battles near Großgörschen and Bautzen and the battle near Haynau in 1813/14 during the war of liberation . In 1814 Ledebur was sent to King Louis XVIII as a courier . posted to Paris and to the court in London . After the peace treaty he rose to the rank of captain and squadron chief until the beginning of January 1820 . In mid-April 1828 he was appointed adjutant to King Friedrich Wilhelm III. in command and at the end of March 1829 appointed his wing adjutant. In September 1833 Ledebur was assigned to the Austrian army in Italy as an observer . Two years later he took part in the Kalisch revue and received the Order of St. Anne II. Class with diamonds and the Order of St. John . Leaving his position as a wing adjutant, he was commissioned on March 30, 1838, initially with the leadership of the 1st Guard-Uhlan (Landwehr) regiment, and Ledebur was appointed regiment commander on May 20, 1838.

On the occasion of the homage celebrations, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV appointed him Herford Hereditary Marshal on October 15, 1840 in Berlin.

Ledebur rose to colonel by early April 1842 . On May 23, 1845 he was appointed commander of the 14th Cavalry Brigade in Düsseldorf . In this position he received the Red Eagle Order II. Class with Oak Leaves at the end of September 1847 and became Major General on May 10, 1848 . Under awarding of the character as a lieutenant general took Ledebur on 10 April 1852 his parting with inn . After his death he was transferred to Crollage on June 18, 1860.

family

Ledebur met on October 27, 1826 in Herzberg with Mathilde Freiin von Maltzahn (1804–1828) from the Lenschow family . She was a daughter of the Prussian court marshal Burchard Friedrich von Maltzahn (1773-1837). The couple had several children:

  • Albrecht (1827–1899), Herr auf Crollage, member of the Prussian House of Representatives ⚭ 1857 Marie von der Reck (1833–1876) from the Stockhausen house, parents of Wilhelm von Ledebur
  • Heinrich, district judge ⚭ 1861 Marie von Dücker (* 1834)

After her untimely death, he married her sister Helmine (1799–1880) in Berlin on December 24, 1832. The following children were born from the marriage:

  • Otto († 1866), Prussian captain ⚭ 1866 Marie von Hoym
  • Ernst August Karl († 1866), Prussian captain
  • Burchard Wilhelm Clamor Alexander († 1866), Prussian chamberlain
  • Juliane (1828–1893) ⚭ 1858 Hermann von Behr-Negendank (1801–1887), Herr auf Passow
