The 1999/2000 season was the eighth season of the Kazakh ice hockey professional league . Nine clubs took part in the competition. Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk secured the title of Kazakh Champion for the seventh time .

In the preliminary round, the participants should play a triple round, so that each team would have played 21 games. Since Awtomobilist Karaganda , Amid Rudny and Junost Karaganda could not maintain the game, the teams that ended the preliminary round made 17 games. The three teams with the most points qualified for the final round.

The final round was played with four teams, as Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk was set automatically. A single round was played there, so that each team had three games. The team with the most points secured the championship in the end.

For a win in the regular playing time of 60 minutes, a team received two points, the losing opponent received nothing. In the event of a tie, each team received one point.

Championship course

Once again, the championship was divided into a preliminary and final round. In previous years, the championship had always been decided in a group stage. After the final round last year was played in the form of finals, this happened again in a group stage this year.

Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk played in the course of the season - with both the first and second team - in parallel in the third-class Russian Pervaya League . In addition, Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk took part in the IIHF Continental Cup in 1999 .

Preliminary round

At the end of the 21 rounds, the defending champions HK ZSKA-ISPAT Temirtau , Barys Astana and Jenbek Almaty made it to the final round. While Temirtau easily qualified, Astana had three points ahead of fourth-placed Avangard Petropavlovsk . Jenbek Almaty prevailed against Petropavlovsk only because of the better goal difference.

Of the other four, non-qualified teams, only Magnitka Temirtau brought the season to an end. Awtomobilist Karaganda and Amid Rudny came to twelve played rounds. The last-placed and winless Junost Karaganda on their seven.
