Kaspar Friedrich of Lethmate

Kaspar Friedrich Freiherr von Lethmate (born July 23, 1652 in Gerbstedt Monastery ; † July 19, 1714 in Wesel ) was a major general in Brandenburg and heir to Brachwitz, Schafsee and Steedten (Stedren).

Life

origin

His parents were the Swedish major general, war council and pledge holder of the Alt-Straßfurt office Kasper von Lethmate († June 21, 1678) and his wife Johanna, nee Gerbrecht von Baumgarten († December 15, 1672) from the House of Bernburg in the county of Hoya .

Military career

Lethmate went into Swedish service in 1670 and fought against the Brandenburgers in the Battle of Fehrbellin during the Swedish invasion . From 1687 he was then Lieutenant Colonel in Brandenburg . On February 22nd, 1689 he recruited two companies that formed the trunk of the later cuirassier regiment "Bayreuth" . On September 12, 1691 he was promoted to colonel and appointed commander of the regiment. In the Turkish War of 1693/95 he fought under General Paul von Brandt . Due to his services in the Battle of Zenta , Lethmate was appointed imperial baron in 1698 , and on October 15, 1698, his status was given by the Elector Friedrich III. approved. In the War of the Spanish Succession he fought in the siege of Kaiserswerth in 1702 . Recalled to Berlin in 1704, on October 7th of the same year he was promoted to brigadier and on January 7th, 1705 Lethmate became major general. He died on July 19, 1714 in Wesel. His body was buried on September 3, 1714 in Magdeburg Cathedral .

family

He married Sabine Christophora Brandt von Lindau from the house of Wiesenburg on May 11, 1679 in Strasbourg . She was the daughter of the Saxon Chamberlain and Colonel Jobst Christoph Brandt von Lindau (1623–1702). The couple had seven sons and five daughters. The sons are said to have died before him, his last son as a KK captain in a duel. Of his daughters, Ida Charlotte Hedwig died in 1754 as the wife of Colonel Anton Ludwig von Krosigk († July 2, 1737). A second was married to Johann Georg von Geuder , Princely Anhalt-Harzgeroder secret council, and a third Maria Louise was married to Lieutenant Colonel Gottlob Vitzthum von Eckstädt on Troßin son of Christoph Vitzthum von Eckstädt .
