Kaspar Ludwig von Bredow

Kaspar Ludwig von Bredow (* 1685 in Neu Zauche ; † June 11, 1773 at Ihlow Castle ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , knight of the Order of the Black Eagle and heir to Ihlow. He is considered the teacher of Crown Prince Friedrich .

Life

origin

His parents were Siegmund Gottfried von Bredow and his wife Barbara Christina, née von Pannewitz (* around 1653). He is the brother of General Friedrich Siegmund von Bredow .

Military career

Bredow began his career in the regiment on foot "von Dönhoff" , with whom he fought in the War of the Spanish Succession . In 1715 he was involved as a captain in the siege of Stralsund . On July 4, 1720 he was promoted to major and on July 14, 1730 to lieutenant colonel. When Crown Prince Friedrich was sent to observe the siege of Philippsburg during the Rhine campaigns in 1734, Bredow was one of his "military mentors". The others were the major general of the cavalry Adolph Friedrich von der Schulenburg and the major general of the infantry Henning Alexander von Kleist

In 1739 Bredow was appointed colonel in the von Derschau infantry regiment and on June 5, 1741, he was appointed commander of the Leib-Karabinierregiment . With this regiment he fought in the Silesian Wars . Bredow was able to distinguish himself especially in the battle of Chotusitz and received the order Pour le Mérite . In May 1743 he was promoted to major general and on May 28, 1747 to lieutenant general. King Friedrich II made him Knight of the Order of the Black Eagle in 1748. In November 1751 Bredow asked for his departure, which was granted to him with a pension of 1,500 thalers. He retired to his estate Ihlow near Neubarnim, where he died in 1773.

For his work he was immortalized in 1851 on the plaques of honor on the equestrian statue of Frederick the Great .

He was married to Dorothea Antoinette von Dachröden. He had two sons who went to the military and a daughter who married von Wulffen .
