Katharina Maisch (born June 12, 1997 ) is a German athlete who specializes in the shot put.

career path

Maisch graduated from the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Gymnasium in Metzingen in 2016 . Then she became a sports soldier in a sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr . From September 2015 to August 2016, Maisch worked as part of a federal voluntary service at the office of the Württemberg Athletics Association .

Athletic career

Katharina Maisch was initially an all-rounder. After a fatigue fracture in her shin, she could only practice throwing disciplines for a while and discovered her weakness for the shot put.

In the winter of 2013/14 she switched from the back-kick or planing technique to the turning technique and exceeded the 15-meter mark several times during the indoor season. In the 2014 outdoor season, Maisch came third in the German U18 championships . With the 3-kg ball, she achieved a personal best of 17.14 m and thus placed fourth in the German U18 best list and seventh place in the U18 world best list.

In 2015 Maisch reached seventh place at her first German championships for active athletes and became German U20 runner-up .

2016 she came at the German Championships in 10th and finished at the German U23 Championships third place. Maisch had exceeded the norm for the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz several times , but was not considered for one of the two starting places. At the end of the year she was fifth in the U20 world best list and second in the German U20 list.

In 2017, by switching from the steigern-turn to the rotary joint technology, Maisch was able to increase to 17.11 m at the German Indoor Championships and thus achieve third place. So she recommended herself for a job at the Winter Throwing European Cup , where she won with the U23 team and even came fourth in the individual. Maisch took 5th place each at the German U23 championships and the German championships . At the end of the year, she moved to the federal base in Chemnitz to train with Sven Lang .

In 2018 Maisch came 5th at the German Indoor Championships and won the U23 Winter Throwing European Cup . At the German Championships , she reached fifth place.

In 2019 she took 5th place at the German Indoor Championships , won the Winter Throwing European Cup in Šamorín with the team and came in 6th place in the individual.

After her successes in 2016, Katharina Maisch was accepted into the B-squad and the junior elite team of the German Athletics Association (DLV) . Since the competitive sports reform , she has been in the perspective of the DLV.
