course

Several source streams of the Katzbach arise in wetlands on the western slope of the 780 m high Vorderen Hiener. Another source stream rises a little further south on the western slope of the 740 m high Hagenberg. These source streams unite a good half a kilometer before the village of Katzbach in the city of Waldmünchen to form the Katzbach, initially known as Lohgraben. The Lohgraben flows in a north-westerly direction to Katzbach and is called Katzbach from there. It flows through the town in a left-hand curve and first crosses state road 2146 and then the Waldmünchen – Cham railway line . After the village, the stream flows south for most of its course.

In the village of Katzbach begins an initially narrow, only later widening valley, which extends from Katzbach to Willmering in a north-south direction. The aforementioned railway line runs parallel to the creek on the valley floor halfway up the slope on the eastern side of the valley, while the St 2146 to Balbersdorf runs closer to the creek on the left lower slope on about the first third of the section to Willmering and then switches to the other side then further away from the water and cross it again in Willmering and leave the bend in the valley there towards the south. The Cham – Waldmünchen railway runs along the entire length of the Katzbach from the village of Katzbach to its mouth, parallel to the creek on its left.

The Katzbach flows from Katzbach to Klinglmühle on the border between the communities of Waldmünchen in the east and Waffenbrunn in the west. From the eastern slope of the 682 m high community mountain, an unnamed stream flows into the Katzbach from the right on the northern edge of Klinglmühle. In Klinglmühle, the municipal boundary gives way to the Katzbach, which flows into the area of the Waffenbrunn municipality. It takes further unnamed streams from the eastern slopes of the Black Forest and Taschnerholz from the right and an unnamed stream from the left from the eastern slope of the Häuselberg.

The valley widens south of Klinglmühle, the valley floor now remains flat and moist up to Waffenbrunn. On this section the Katzbach branches off several times and then reunites.

It flows through Balbersdorf and to Schnabelmühle , between which several unnamed streams flow from the wooded slopes to the right and left. South of the Schnabelmühle, the long Himmelmühlbach, coming from the northwest, runs from its own small valley, while some of the tributaries from the other side are only very short sloping streams. A little before the Pointmühle von Waffenbrunn flows from a right valley widening around Weiher from the right the somewhat longer Lohbauernbach.

The Katzbach passes the Pointmühle and then Waffenbrunn, which is mostly on the right; here the area of the next municipality Willmering partially borders the eastern bank, to which he will soon cross over. For the next two of his remaining less than four kilometers, he turns to the south-western run right through the eponymous capital of the municipality, where he crosses a small park with a listed chapel. After the B 22 had crossed the stream further down and its valley hollow, which was only slightly deepened here, he entered the urban area of Cham . For the last two kilometers or so, it swings back to the southern run, on which it finally separates the districts of Katzberg on the left bank of Cham and Katzbach (!) On the right bank.

Finally, it runs under the railway bridge of the Furth im Wald – Schwandorf railway line following the course of the river and then flows into the rain from the right in the Regentalaue nature reserve .

  • Münchsbach from the right

Missing documentation

While water code numbers (GKZ) were documented in freely accessible directories for small and very small streams in Bavaria , it behaves very differently when it rains. Of the 74 larger tributaries of the rain, only 6 are designated with a GKZ in the water directory Danube from the Naab to the Isar of the Bavarian State Office for the Environment :

In addition, there is no extra file for the rain and its tributaries, as is the case for some other larger tributaries of the Danube, namely for the Lech , Naab , Isar and Inn .

The Katzbach is one of those tributaries of the rain that are not listed in these registers with a GKZ. If he has a GKZ, it must start with 152291.
