The Katzengrabensteg (also Krusenickbrücke ) is a pedestrian bridge over the Müggelspree and an oxbow lake in the area of the Berlin district Berlin-Köpenick . The building was completed in 2001 and serves pedestrians and cyclists as a short route from the old town of Köpenick via Baumgarteninsel to the “Am Krusenick” residential park.
history
Together with the Treptow-Köpenick district administration, the Berlin Senate is creating a long-term, continuous riverside path “Altstadt Köpenick”, for which the new bridge will play an important role. There was no earlier bridge at the designated point. The name of the pedestrian bridge was derived from the street Katzengraben in the area of the Köpenick old town, which connects it to the Friedrichshagener Straße via the river to Krusenick .
The bridge construction
The contracted engineering firm designed and built a modern and light around 110 meters long einhüftige cable-stayed bridge with steel tension bands and a central pylon . The foundation of the rope support took place on the south side of the Baumgarteninsel. The eastern bridge connection to the lower-lying area of the Krusenick is made by an earth ramp, the western connection is made by a reinforced concrete ramp, which leads over the area of the fire brigade . In 2007, the subsequent construction of a staircase suitable for the handicapped to directly access the Baumgarteninsel via the Katzengrabensteg was planned. This was already included in the planning for the construction of the footbridge, but was not implemented for cost reasons.
The static system of the bridge consists of a continuous beam over two fields, which is fixed by the pylon and the tie rods. Profiled oak planks form the bridge covering on the superstructure, which means that separate bridge drainage is superfluous. These planks had to be completely replaced in autumn 2005. The original bridge lighting was dismantled due to repeated vandalism and replaced by halogen spotlights on the pylon. Between 2005 and the end of 2008, total costs of EUR 83,500 were incurred for repair, cleaning and maintenance work. Regular maintenance intervals are not specified.
