Kaupo Kaljuste (born December 15, 1981 in Tallinn , Estonian SSR ) is a former Estonian ice hockey player who was last under contract until 2013 with the Kongsvinger Knights in the Norwegian 1. divisjon , the second highest division of the Scandinavian country.
Career
Kaljuste began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of the Finnish club Nokian Pyry . In 2002 he returned to his Estonian homeland and made his debut for HK Karud in the Meistriliiga , where he immediately became top scorer among the defenders of the league. From 2003 to 2006 he played for HC Panter from his hometown Tallinn , with whom he became Estonian champion in 2004 . He was able to repeat this success in 2007 with the Tallinn Stars . He then quickly played in Great Britain, the Netherlands, Belarus, France, Finland, Poland and Romania, before moving to the Kongsvinger Knights in the Norwegian 1. divisjon , the second highest division in the Scandinavian country, in 2011 . There he ended his career in 2013.
International
In the junior division Kaljuste took part for Estonia in the U20 World Cup in Division II in 2001 , where he had to accept relegation to Division III with the Estonians.
With the men's national team he played in the World Championships of Division I in 2003 , 2004 , when he was the top scorer among the defenders of the tournament, in 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 and 2011 as well as Division II in 2009 , 2010 and 2012 . He also represented his colors in the qualifying tournaments for the Winter Olympics in Turin in 2006 and in Vancouver in 2010 .
