The Kelluyo district is located in the Chucuito Province in the Puno region in southern Peru . The district was established on June 1, 1982. The Kelluyo District has an area of ​​486 km². The 2017 census counted 7,346 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 8138, in 2007 it was 17,869. The administrative seat of the district is the 3830  m high village of Kelluyo with 866 inhabitants (as of 2017). Kelluyo is located 60 km south-southeast of the provincial capital July and just under 130 km southeast of the regional capital Puno .

Geographical location

The Kelluyo district is located in the Altiplano south-southwest of Lake Titicaca in the southeast of the Chucuito province. Along the northern district boundary, the Río Ccallaccame flows east to the Laguna Aguallamaya, through which the Río Desaguadero flows.

The Kelluyo district borders in the southwest on the Pisacoma district , in the northwest on the Huacullani district , in the northeast on the Zepita and Desaguadero districts and in the east on the municipality of San Andrés de Machaca in the Bolivian province of Ingavi in the La Paz department .
