Kira Biesenbach (born October 7, 1992 in Leverkusen ) is a German athlete who mainly competes in the heptathlon.

career path

Kira Biesenbach is studying sport and social sciences to become a teacher in Cologne. As part of her teaching degree, she did a six-month internship at the beginning of 2018.

Athletic career

After starting out in riding and swimming, Biesenbach started athletics at the age of eight. In 2006 she celebrated her first national success at the German School Championships when she took third place in the "Block Sprint / Jump" discipline. At the German junior championships (B and A youth) she won a total of six medals in the sprint and all-around competition until 2011 . In 2010 Biesenbach became German A-youth indoor champion in pentathlon.

At the youth world championships in 2009 in Brixen , Italy , Biesenbach won the heptathlon bronze medal with a personal best of 5423 points, four years later at the U23 European championships in Tampere (Finland) she was able to win the runner-up European championship title.

In the adult sector, Biesenbach achieved podium positions for the first time at national level in 2012; at the German championships she was third with the 4 x 400 meter relay and won the heptathlon title in the all- around championships in the individual competition as well as with the team. In addition, the Leverkusen woman won the German championship title in the heptathlon for the first time with 5779 points . In 2013 she reached second place with the 4 x 100 meter relay.

On July 30, 2013 Kira Biesenbach was nominated by the German Athletics Association for the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, Russia , but had to abandon the heptathlon there because of a thigh injury and end the season.

In 2014 she became German indoor all-around champion in pentathlon.

At the end of May 2017, after a three-year recovery phase due to a serious knee injury, Biesenbach became the heptathlon champion at the North Rhine-Westphalian all-around championships in Bad Oeynhausen . In August 2017 she won the runner-up in the heptathlon at the German all-around championships in Kienbaum and won the team championship.

In 2018, at the beginning of the year, Biesenbach tore an Achilles tendon in his left foot while training.

Club affiliations

Biesenbach has started for TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen since autumn 2005 . Before that she was at Wermelskirchener TV (WTV).
