The originally Roman Catholic Church of the Holy Guardian Angel is located in the Berlin district of Neukölln , Britz district . After the sale of the church in 2011, it now belongs to the International Christian Church and is called the “Cathedral of Prayer”.

history

In 1926, the gardener Reese acquired the property at Dorfstrasse 25 (today: Alt-Britz 41) in order to shorten the long way for Catholics in Britz to the church of the mother parish of St. Eduard in Berlin-Neukölln .

On September 24, 1933, the Berlin vicar Steinmann laid the foundation stone . The parish festival of this first Guardian Angel Church, based on a design by the architect Nordhoff, was celebrated by the faithful together with Bishop Nikolaus Bares on March 19, 1934. When the Guardian Angel Church was officially established on April 1, 1934, it had 3,500 believers.

After the church became too small for the rapidly growing community, a larger new building was inaugurated in 1961 based on a design by the Berlin architects Rudolf Grosse and Heinz Völker.

Building description

The second Guardian Angel Church is a hall church on a trapezoidal floor plan . The with a gable roof covered nave is a reinforced concrete - skeleton , which is open from the inside. The recessed cross bar tower accommodates the altar on the ground floor. The eight gable-shaped skeleton stirrups rise from the entrance to the retracted, tent-shaped choir and move closer together in width. The three bronze bells were made in 1960 by the bell foundry Rudolf Perner .

The organ has a slider drawer with mechanical play and stop action . Two manuals and pedals 18 are register 1340 Pipe from a tin-lead alloy (35-57%) or wood and reeds distributed. The organ was manufactured by the Freiburg organ builders Hartwig and Tilmann Späth in March.

International Christian Church

After the church was solemnly deedicated on October 2, 2011, the altar, ambo and baptismal font made of black natural stone were reused in a new church in Szczecin . The tabernacle , cross and altar candlesticks were conveyed to a new church in India. The new owner of the church building, the International Christian Church Berlin, previously the African Christian Church , is an international charismatic Pentecostal church with members of predominantly African origin.

The Catholic kindergarten Holy Guardian Angel is continued on the property by the parish of Brother Klaus .
