Klaus Groh (born August 30, 1954 in Pirmasens ) is a former German weightlifter .

Career

Klaus Groh, from Pirmasens , started lifting weights at AC Rodalben as a teenager. For this club he started in 1971 for the first time at the German Youth A championship and took 4th place in the lightweight in the Olympic three-way battle with 247.5 kg (75-77.5-95). Just one year later, starting for ASV Pirmasens , he became German youth champion (A-youth) and increased his lightweight to 325 kg (105-95-125).

After a weaker year in 1973, here he failed three times at the German junior championships with 110 kg and therefore remained unplaced, his ascent continued at a rapid pace in 1974. This year he became German junior middleweight champion with 285 kg and a little later also German champion in the senior category with 305 kg (135-170). He was then used in the same year at the World Championships for Seniors in Manila and reached the 8th place in the middleweight division with 297.5 kg (132.5-165).

In 1975 Klaus Groh was again German middleweight champion with 307.5 kg (135-172.5) in a duel before Norbert Bergmann from Oberhausen , who reached 302.5 kg (120-172.5). At the World and European Championships in Moscow in 1975 , he then achieved the best result of his career in the middleweight division. He took an excellent 5th place in the middleweight division with 315 kg (140-175).

In 1976 he won the German senior middleweight championship for the third time. His performance was 317.5 kg (142.5-175), with which he was clearly ahead of Karl Rimböck, Donaueschingen , 287.5 kg. At the European Championships in 1976 in Berlin (East) he reached 310 kg (140-170) in a duel and came in 8th place with this performance. It was also used at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal . He managed there in the middleweight 307.5 kg (137.5-170) and took 10th place.

At the German championships in 1977, Klaus Groh, starting in the light heavyweight division for the first time, scored 325 kg (147.5-177.5), placing himself ahead of Hans Schmidt from Donaueschingen , 312.5 kg and Horst Appel from Kassel , 307.5 kg 1st place. At the Welt- u. At the European Championships in 1977 in Stuttgart , he weighed 320 kg (145-175) and thus took an excellent 6th place in the fully assembled world elite.

In 1978 Klaus Groh had to bow to Norbert Bergmann in the German championship . Starting again in the middleweight division, he achieved 315 kg (142.5-172.5), while Norbert Bergmann came to 317.5 kg (135-182.5). At the European Championships in Havířov he achieved 305 kg (137.5-167.5), with which he finished 8th. Also at the World Championships in Gettysburg he lifted 305 kg (137.5-167.5) in a duel, which reached 10th place in the middleweight division.

In 1979 Klaus Groh became German senior champion for the fifth time. He achieved a personal best in the light heavyweight division with 337.5 kg (150-187.5), with which he stayed ahead of Norbert Bergmann , 335 kg (145-190) and Horst Appel , 330 kg (140-190). A few weeks later his performance at the European Championships in Varna was 330 kg (145-185), with which he finished 6th. At the German championship in Coburg in 1980 , Klaus Groh weighed 335 kg (155-180) in the light heavyweight division. He had to be satisfied with this performance behind Horst Appel, 345 kg (150-195) and Norbert Bergmann, 337.5 kg (147.5-190) with 3rd place. It is questionable whether it would have been used at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow . However, this start did not take place anyway, because the National Olympic Committee of the FRG, on the advice of the federal government, boycotted these games for political reasons.

After taking a break in 1981 due to injury, Klaus Groh was in 1982 behind Norbert Bergmann, 335 kg (145-190), German runner-up in the light heavyweight division with 315 kg (145-170). He then ended his career as a weightlifter. In 1984 he said goodbye as a sergeant major in the armed forces and, after working as a real estate agent, took over a fitness studio in 1993.
