Klaus Peter Arnold

Klaus Peter Arnold (born February 1, 1942 in Vienna ; † July 20, 2017 in Zwettl ) was an Austrian geographer , historian and tourism scientist who worked as a professor at the Institute for Economic Geography at the Vienna University of Economics and Business until 2007 .

Life

Arnold attended the Stubenbastei grammar school , where he obtained his Matura in 1958 . He then did military service in the armed forces , which he left with the rank of lieutenant colonel . Arnold then studied geography and history at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in 1973 with a dissertation on the Eastern Sattnitz in Carinthia . He then worked as a university assistant and since 1975 lecturer for tourism geography at the Institute for Economic Geography at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. Here he completed his habilitation in 1989 with a study on the industrial geography of the federal state of Lower Austria . From 1998 to 2007 Arnold headed the Austrian university course for tourism, in which he introduced e-learning as a new form of teaching in 1999 . Since his retirement in 2007, Arnold has lived in Amaliendorf-Aalfang in the northwestern Waldviertel . From 2008 to 2009 he was still in charge of the Event Engineering course at the New Design University in St. Pölten .

Klaus Peter Arnold emerged as the author of numerous scientific publications and studies. For the Association of Austrian Industrialists he created a Vienna industrial atlas . He dealt with numerous international regions, including the Crimea , and Austrian regions such as the one around Lake Neusiedl . From 1985 to 2002 and from 2006 to 2007 he was President of the Austrian Society for Economic Research. His academic students include Caroline Funke, Franz Günther Jauck and Birgit Hutter .
