Klaus-Jürgen Pohl (born August 1, 1941 in Demmin ) is a former German wrestler .

Life

Klaus Pohl from Demmin in Mecklenburg began wrestling as a teenager. After initial successes, the wrestler, highly rated by the talent scouts of the GDR wrestling association, was delegated to SG Dynamo Luckenwalde , where he developed into a class wrestler in the Greco-Roman style with coach Rolf Wilkowski. One of his first major successes was the 2nd place in the lightweight, Greco-Roman style at the "Werner Seelenbinder Tournament" in Leipzig in 1962 behind Eckhard Schulz from Rostock and ahead of Stas Penew, Bulgaria . The future world champion Dawid Gwandseladzefrom the USSR was only 6th winner in this weight class. He first became GDR lightweight champion in 1964 when he defeated the favorite Eckhard Schulz. Klaus Pohl's greatest success was winning the European Championship in Essen in 1966 . When studying his opponents in international competitions in the following years, it is noticeable that he always had an extremely difficult lot. So he defeated z. For example, at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , Vitezlav Macha and Gennadi Sapunow, two world champions, only to fail in the next round against two other world champions, Petros Galaktopoulos and Stevan Horvat .

After the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , Klaus Pohl ended his wrestling career and was a successful coach at Dynamo Luckenwalde for many years.
