Klaus Theo Brenner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Klaus Theo Brenner (* 1950 in Fellbach near Stuttgart ) is a German architect based in Berlin with strong ties to Milanese modernism .

Life

Brenner studied at the Technical University of Berlin . He gained his first professional experience in the mid-1970s with the internationally renowned Berlin architect Josef Paul Kleihues . His attitude, manifested in the International Building Exhibition in Berlin in 1984/87, that the urban layout is the memory of the cities, influenced and shaped Brenner. To round off his training, he then worked for the Italian star architect Vittorio Gregotti in Milan . In addition to several visiting professorships in Genoa and Milan, Brenner received a call to the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences in 1996 , where he co-founded the Potsdam School of Architecture.

Act

Due to the urban and architectural formative experiences in Berlin and Milan, Brenner always takes into account the position and effect of his buildings in the urban context. The beauty and viability of European cities is at the center of his architectural thinking. He has also dealt with it theoretically and historically and has backed up his views in several book publications, including on the urban row house , the urban residential palace or Die Gute Stadt , underpinned with many examples.

Important projects

After an initial partnership with the Berlin architect Benedict Tonon in the 1980s, Klaus Theo Brenner founded his own Berlin office called Klaus Theo Brenner STADTARCHITEKTUR after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1992 . In addition to an office building on Friedrichstrasse and a hotel on Leipziger Strasse from the 1990s, the master plan and construction work for the Rummelsburger Bucht are among the outstanding projects. The project was awarded the German Urban Development Prize in 2009. The project Konstanz Herosé - Stadt am Seerhein in Konstanz received the Hugo Häring Award in 2011 . A large urban ensemble was created with the St. Leonhards Garden in Braunschweig . In 2013 the office worked on the Berlin city extensions Gartenstadt Karlshorst , Wasserstadt Spindlersfeld as well as on the townhouses on Kurfürstenstrasse and on Schlachtensee Carée .
