Bartensleben was a municipality in the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt that was dissolved in early 2010.

geography

Big and small Bartensleben are about 1,500 m apart. The places are east of Helmstedt on the east side of the Lappwald forest . Groß Bartensleben is shaped by the former manor of the noble von Veltheim family with numerous buildings, some of which are now in ruins. During the German Democratic Republic , an agricultural production cooperative was operated here. After the fall of the Wall, the manor buildings were sold to individual owners.

The following districts were identified as belonging to the municipality:

history

The main part of the manor district Groß-Bartensleben was united on September 30, 1928 with the rural community of Klein-Bartensleben. On April 10, 1929, the rural community of Klein Bartensleben was renamed Bartensleben. On January 1, 2010 the previously independent communities of Bartensleben, Bregenstedt (December 31, 2009), Hakenstedt and Uhrsleben were incorporated into the Erxleben community . Bartensleben did not become a district, but the districts Groß Bartensleben and Klein Bartensleben were assigned to Erxleben.

Bartensleben Castle

Inaccessible on the castle island and hidden in the green - Bartensleben Castle

In Groß-Bartensleben there is the Bartensleben Castle, which was built in the middle of the 18th century on the foundation walls of an earlier moated castle with three outer castles. The baroque castle is surrounded by a wide moat on a castle island, which is only accessible via a bridge (closed in 2005 as private property). The von Veltheim family ruled the original castle and the later palace since around 1400 . After the castle was expropriated after the Second World War in 1945, the noble von Veltheim family fled to the west. Then the Soviet occupying power and the National People's Army used it to then serve as a women's sanatorium under the name Clara Zetkin and until 1991 as an old people's home. After the retirement home was closed and the fall of the Wall in 1989, the castle became increasingly neglected. Since the takeover of a private owner, extensive renovation measures have been carried out to counteract the decay of the vacant building. Adjacent to the castle are larger ponds and a former English landscape park , which has recently been restructured (2008). It was probably built in the 18th century from an earlier baroque garden.

Village and gender of those from Bartensleben

The village of Bartensleben is mentioned for the first time on August 9, 1112 as Bertensleve duo mansi in a document from Bishop Reinhard von Halberstadt . The place gave its name to the first gentlemen, the von Bartensleben family . It was first mentioned in 1188 with Herrmann von Bartensleben, son of Ludolph von Peine , in a deed of donation from Count Herrmann von Woldenberg ( Herrmannus Miles dictus de Bartensleve filius Lundolfi ). A Dominus Herbertus de Bardesleve is mentioned as a witness in a document from Count von Dannenberg in 1212 . The family had their origin in the moated castle Bartensleben, which they left in the 13th century to go to what is now Wolfsburg . There they ruled for centuries, until they died out in 1742, on Wolfsburg's fortress-like moated castle , which was built around 1300 . The family of the von Berwinkel family , related to them and connected in a coat of arms , owned the village of Bartensleben as an archbishop's fief until Hilmar I von Veltheim was enfeoffed with the village in 1467.

church

Close to the castle is the Romanesque Gutskirche Groß Bartensleben , the patronage church of the von Veltheim family, which was first mentioned in a document in 1120. It was enlarged in 1530 and 1620. Inside there are several epitaphs from the von Veltheim family, including a. Achim von Veltheim , Agnes von Veltheim, b. von Trotha and her son Christopher. The wood carved altar was created in 1676 by Mathias Hermann from Helmstedt . In the crypt is the hereditary burial of the von Veltheim family with 35 coffins.
