Klein Kölzig ( Lower Sorbian Mały Kólsk ) is a district of the municipality of Neisse-Malxetal in the district of Spree-Neisse in southeastern Brandenburg . It belongs to the traditional settlement area of the Sorbs / Wends.
location
Klein Kölzig is located in Niederlausitz , northeast of the Muskau folds , between Forst and Weißwasser / Oberlausitz . The border between Germany and Poland is about 10 kilometers away. The next big city is Cottbus .
The federal highway 115 passes to the east of the village .
history
The village was first mentioned as Cleyn Koltezik in 1487 in a chronicle of the Forst rulership . The name is derived from Sorbian , which testifies to the fact that stakes were used when erecting them. Klein Kölzig was initially just a vassal estate that changed hands several times in history.
In the middle of the 19th century industrialization came to the village. In 1851 lignite mining began in the Franz mine . Until 1854, Klein Kölzig had its own village school, which was also taught in Sorbian until the end , as many children came to school without any knowledge of German. A briquette factory was built on the Weißwasser – Forst railway line . In 1928 the company was closed. After the Second World War , the mine to supply the population in the Cottbus area with coal was put back into operation as a makeshift. In 1958 the funding was finally stopped.
Klein Kölzig remained an independent community and merged on December 31, 2001 with the other towns of Groß Kölzig , Jocksdorf, Jerischke and Preschen to form the new large community of Neisse-Malxetal in the Döbern-Land district.
