action

The twelve-year-old Mai lives with her mother Julia, a successful opera singer , in Munich . She never met her father, and she was always told by her mother that they could both do well on their own. It hits her all the more when one day Julia tells her that she wants to marry her boyfriend, who has already moved in with them with his sons. Mai rebels against it and wants to move in with her father in protest. She annoys her mother with it until she finally agrees - convinced that the daughter will return to her after 24 hours at the latest.

Jacob, the father, lives in Hamburg and holds himself as Elvis Presley - impersonator and odd jobs. He knows nothing of his daughter's existence and is completely surprised when Julia calls him and tells him that she will come to him. Since he has just accepted a job as a courier and a valuable breeding - ram through Denmark and Sweden to Norway to carry, he decides to take in May along for the ride.

When Jakob picks up Mai from the airport, she is disappointed. She had imagined her father to be a rich mansion owner, not the obviously poor guy who stands in front of her in tattered clothes and drives a pickup truck that is almost scrapped. She is not very enthusiastic about the idea of driving to Norway with the car and the sheep in the hold. Nevertheless, she goes on the journey because she does not want to lose the power struggle with her mother.

At first Mai encountered Jakob's attempts to get to know her, unfriendly and defensive. Only when he saves her from drowning while swimming in a lake and therefore wants to send her home does she open and the two get closer. Later Mai had her first menstrual period in a petrol station toilet , to which she initially reacted in panic, but Jakob reassured her. However, in the excitement of her mother, she wrote a text message in which she reported about the blood but did not give the reason, whereupon Julia immediately set off for Norway. Using an app on Mai's mobile phone, she can track them down and wants to take Mai back to Munich with her. But then she is convinced by Mai and Jakob to let the two end their journey together.

reception

The reviews weren't too friendly.

“The film deals with the identity crisis and finding of the daughter and father in a less subtle way through clichéd contrasts. Instead of unfolding the story in a cinematic way, he gets stuck in the templates of soulful entertainment. "

“Well, the story isn't new, it feels like it's been told a hundred times. […] Fabrick […] told his father-daughter road movie so quickly that the sentimentality is limited. And the wonderful pictures of Norway make you want to go on vacation. Shortcoming: He should have built more on the development of the characters instead of using music every three minutes as an emotional boost. "
