Mátészalka small area

The Mátészalka small area ( Hungarian Mátészalkai kistérség ) was a Hungarian administrative unit ( LAU 1) in the southeast of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County in the Northern Great Plain until the end of 2012 . In the south, three villages bordered Romania. During the administrative reform of 2013, the small area went unchanged with all 26 localities in the Mátészalka district (Hungarian: Mátészalka járás ).

At the end of 2012, 64,810 people lived in an area of ​​624.70 km². The population density of the second most populous small area was 104 inhabitants / km², slightly above the county average.

The administrative seat was in the city of Mátészalka (17.144 Ew.). Nagyecsed (6.524 Ew.) And Vaja (3.639 Ew.) Also had city rights. Hodász (3,349 Ew.), Mérk (2,171 Ew.) And Ököritófülpös (1,859 Ew.) Were three large communities (Hungarian nagyközség ). This and the other 20 municipalities (Hungarian község ) had an average population of 1,631 (22.21 km² area).
