history

The first mention was in 1303 as "lesso munstero". An original settlement was probably about 200 meters southeast of today's village, on the left of the road to Mechenried. Since 1497, the location of the village and the church can be proven at the current location.

Kleinmünster was a Ganerbendorf with up to nine people. At the beginning of the 19th century it had 46 residential buildings with 230 inhabitants. A house was inhabited by subjects of Sachsen-Hildburghausen . Subjects of the Würzburg bishopric , the monasteries Mariaburghausen and Theres, and Messrs. Truchseß von Wetzhausen lived in the other houses . According to a state treaty between the Grand Duchy of Würzburg and the Duchy of Saxony-Hildburghausen, Kleinmünster, which previously belonged to the Saxon office of Königsberg , was ceded to Würzburg in 1807 . In 1814 the Grand Duchy of Würzburg reverted to Bavaria .

In 1862 the rural community of Kleinmünster was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian District Office in Haßfurt . In 1871 the parish village of Kleinmünster had 369 inhabitants, 173 of whom were Catholic and 196 Protestant, and 68 were residential buildings. A school for each denomination was in town. In 1900, 390 inhabitants lived in 64 residential buildings in the 634 hectare community. In 1925 the place had 64 residential buildings and 338 inhabitants, 180 of whom were Catholic and 158 were Protestant. The responsible Catholic parish was in Mechenried, 1.6 kilometers away. The Protestants belonged to the parish of Rügheim, 5.0 kilometers away .

In 1950 the church village had 390 residents and 64 residential buildings. In 1961 Kleinmünster had 315 residents and 70 residential buildings. In 1970 there were 305 and 1987 265 inhabitants as well as 81 residential buildings with 86 apartments.

On July 1, 1972, the Haßfurt district was dissolved as part of the regional reform and Kleinmünster became part of the Haßberg district . On May 1, 1978, the municipality was incorporated into Riedbach.

Attractions

Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Salvator

Kleinmünster is one of the few villages in Lower Franconia where churches of two Christian denominations have been standing since the middle of the 19th century. The older church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Salvator in the town center, was first mentioned in 1319 as the Otilienkirche. In 1688 a new building followed in the same place. In 1752 a new church tower was built and the sacristy was added in 1877 . The church has a choir tower with an onion dome and a hall with a gable roof as the nave . The facade of the church is structured with sandstone. The Saxon coat of arms is located above the entrance.

The Catholic Kuratiekirche St. Margaretha was built in 1865 in the neo-Gothic style. It is a hall building with a retracted choir and a gable roof with a turret .

A total of eight architectural monuments are listed in the Bavarian list of monuments .
