Kleinwetzdorf is a village and cadastral municipality in the municipality of Heldenberg in Lower Austria .

geography

Kleinwetzdorf is located on the Schmida just west of Horner Strasse . The place consists of only a few houses and is dominated by Wetzdorf Castle , the Heldenberg Memorial and the Koller Oldtimer Museum. An extension of the Wagram rises further to the west .

history

The place name Wetzdorf is derived from the Old High German Wazzo or Wazili . The first written mention of the name was made in a valid book of the Zwettl Monastery , where a Wetzlesdorf near Chlaubendorf appears. A distinction between Groß- and Kleinwetzdorf is first made in a deed of ownership from the Radlbrunn family. The history of the place is closely linked to the history of the castle, for example when Joseph Pargfrieder bought 19 small houses and had them demolished in 1843 while redesigning the castle park. After the reforms of 1848/1849 , Kleinwetzdorf was established as an independent municipality in 1850. It was assigned to the Ravelsbach district until 1868 and then to the Hollabrunn district .
