About this picture

Altheim is a small community near Ehingen in the Alb-Donau district in Baden-Württemberg , to which no other places apart from the village of the same name belong.

geography

Altheim is located on the southern slope of the Swabian Alb on the Hochstrasse , southwest of Ulm and near the city of Ehingen (Danube) .

Neighboring communities

The community borders the city of Schelklingen in the north, the city of Erbach in the east, the city of Ehingen in the south and Allmendingen in the west .

history

Until the 19th century

The original owners of the village were the Lords of Steusslingen. In the 14th century, members of the Ruch family bought individual farms. Between 1425 and 1436 Burkard von Wernau was able to acquire most of the farms. Since Burkard's son Conrad von Wernau remained childless, the inheritance fell to the younger brother Jörg von Wernau. But he only had four daughters and no son. The third daughter, Clara, married Conrad von Stadion , and in 1497 the goods passed to the von Stadion family. Since Conrad von Stadion also had no male heir, the property passed to his son-in-law Caspar von Freyberg , who had married Appollonia's heir daughter in 1518. At least since the death of Conrad von Stadion, probably in 1527, the von Freyberg family remained in possession of most of the farms in Altheim until the fiefdom was replaced in the 19th century. Two farms each were owned by the Urspring and Blaubeuren monasteries .

Religions

Altheim has had its own parish since the high Middle Ages. The parish church is consecrated to Saint Michael , which indicates an early foundation in the Alemannic era . Initially, the Altheim parish was a daughter parish of the Erbach parish . The farmers of the Blaubeuren monastery stayed with Catholicism even after the reformation of the monastery. In 1826 all 318 residents were Catholic. As a result of moving in, Protestant residents are now also resident.
