The Knooppunt Maanderbroek is a motorway triangle in the Dutch province of Gelderland in the west of the municipality of Ede . It connects Rijksweg 12 (A12: Oberhausen - Arnhem - Utrecht - The Hague ) with Rijksweg 30 (A30: towards Amersfoort ).

The motorway triangle is named after the former village of Manen , which used to be south of the town center of Ede, near what is now the triangle. Today many street names in Ede such as Maanderweg , Verlengde Maanderweg , Maanderbuurtweg , Nieuwe Maanderbuurtweg , Maanderdijk and Maanderbroekweg remind of the village and the district of Ede Maandereng . A "broek" in Dutch describes a basin in which the groundwater is usually located. Due to the low location, about 20 meters below the town center of Ede, the motorway junction was called Maanderbroek accordingly.

history

The junction was opened to traffic on July 12, 2004 with the completion of the expansion of the N30 to the A30 between Ede-Noord and the Knooppunt Maanderbroek. The very great need for an intersection-free triangle in this area became clear above all through the sharp increase in the number of vehicles passing the motorway triangle to 50,000 vehicles per day in the following years.

In 2009 the additional lane of the A12 between Veenendaal and Ede was opened. During construction, small changes also had to be made to the Knooppunt Maanderbroek.

Design

The motorway triangle is built in the shape of a modified trumpet . The only difference to a regular trumpet motorway triangle is that the Utrecht – Amersfoort ramp intersects with the Arnhem – Amersfoort ramp, which is why the vehicles coming from Utrecht have to line up from the right. This modification was made in order to allow the traffic from the direction of Arnhem, which has been given a higher priority here, a better traffic flow.

The connecting ramp from Arnhem to Amersfoort has been expanded to two lanes over its entire length. The ramps Utrecht – Amersfoort and Amersfoort – Arnhem are partially expanded to two lanes, with the latter only becoming a single lane shortly before it is integrated into the A12. Only the connecting ramp from Amersfoort to Utrecht is single-lane throughout.
