The Knooppunt Waterberg is a motorway triangle in the Dutch province of Gelderland in the north of the city of Arnhem ( Dutch Arnhem ). It connects Rijksweg 12 (A12: Oberhausen –Arnhem– Utrecht - The Hague ) with Rijksweg 50 (A50: Zwolle - Apeldoorn –Arnhem– Eindhoven ).
The motorway triangle is named after the Waterberg , a hill in the north of Arnhem, south of the motorway triangle. The Waterbergscheweg road of the same name and the De Waterberg estate are also nearby .
history
The Knooppunt Waterberg was opened to traffic in June 1992 with the completion of the A50 between Hoenderloo and Arnhem.
The western section of the A12 to Knooppunt Grijsoord had previously been expanded to six lanes. Between 2011 and 2012 the section east of Knooppunt Waterberg was also expanded to six lanes.
Design
The motorway triangle combines the trumpet and triangle designs via two semi-direct ramps . This design enables vehicles coming from the north on the A50 to remain on the A50 if they are in the left lane. West of the junction, the A12 runs together with the A50 to Knooppunt Grijsoord. The semi-direct ramps that connect the A12 and A50 in / from the west with the A50 in / from the north have each been expanded to two lanes.
In addition, the Arnhem-Noord exit ( N784 ) in the motorway triangle was intrigued, which also contributed to the complexity of the design. It can be reached from the east as well as from the west. From the north, the Arnhem-Centrum exit is in front of the node .
