The Knooppunt Oud-Dijk is a motorway triangle in the Dutch province of Gelderland in the north of the city of Zevenaar . It connects Rijksweg 12 (A12: Oberhausen - Arnhem - Utrecht - The Hague ) with Rijksweg 18 (A18: Zevenaar - Doetinchem - Enschede ).

The motorway triangle is named after the hamlet of Oud-Dijk , which is about a kilometer north near Didam .

history

The Knooppunt Oud-Dijk - aerial view

The motorway triangle was opened to traffic on November 27, 1974, with the completion of the A18 between Knooppunt Oud-Dijk and Doetinchem. The A12 had previously been completed in the area between 1961 and 1962 between Knooppunt Velperbroek and the German border.

Originally, a connection between the Knooppunt Oud-Dijk and the Knooppunt Ressen was planned as the A15. Since the route was to serve as a direct connection between Nijmegen and Enschede, the A18 was counted as part of Rijksweg 15 for organizational reasons . Then the Knooppunt Oud-Dijk could be converted into a turbine -shaped motorway junction . However, current plans include the construction of a new motorway triangle called Knooppunt Oudbroeken .

Design

The motorway triangle has only two connecting ramps, which are arranged in the shape of an unfinished trumpet. The connection ramps enable the connection from the A12 from west to the A18 from north and vice versa. To get from Doetinchem in the direction of Oberhausen , you have to avoid the A12 via the Didam exit in front of the motorway junction and the N335 and N812 to the Beek exit .

The Knooppunt Oud-Dijk is equipped with traffic lights to regulate traffic flow. Due to the proximity of about 1200 meters to the German border and the low border traffic, an average of over 50% of the vehicles on the A12 come west of the motorway triangle from the A18.
