Konrad Kraemer

Konrad Wilhelm Kraemer (born August 31, 1926 in Bocholt ; † March 16, 1991 in Bergisch Gladbach ) was a German CDU politician .

After the war and captivity and Philology -Studies (with minors in Political Science , Mass Communication , Philosophy and Pedagogy ) 1948-1954 he was already in the 1950s, a member of the Council of the city of Münster . Because of his professional activity he came to the Rheinisch-Bergische Kreis . After a lengthy editorial work for the Westfälische Nachrichten and a shorter one as editor-in-chief of Freie Fernsehen GmbH from 1961 to 1984 he was editor-in-chief of the Catholic News Agency (KNA) in Bonn .

District Administrator

From 1964 to 1989 he was a member of the district council in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis. From February 1, 1968 to August 31, 1989, his 63rd birthday, he was an honorary district administrator . With almost 22 years of service, he was the second longest-serving district administrator in North Rhine-Westphalia . The district order for North Rhine-Westphalia, initiated by the British military government after 1946, allowed unlimited re-election of the district administrators who were still volunteer at the time until 1994.

In Kraemer's time as the political representative of the district, there were only two senior district directors as heads of the district administration.

During Kraemer's tenure in 1971, the district administration moved to the new district building in Bergisch Gladbach , the construction of which had already begun under his predecessor Hubert Görg . Much more drastic was the municipal reorganization on January 1, 1975 due to the Cologne Act . The Rheinisch-Bergische Kreis was completely changed, as shown in the article about the district.

Honors

In 1978 he was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Rheinisch-Bergische Kreis awarded him the Golden Ring of Honor, the State of North Rhine-Westphalia awarded him the Order of Merit in 1988 .

An extraordinary honor was given by the county of Cumbria , the partner of the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis in the United Kingdom. On the occasion of the farewell to Kraemer, who had greatly promoted the partnership, a conference room in the district building in Kendal was named the Kraemer Room .
