Konrad Wohlhage
Konrad Wohlhage (born December 3, 1953 in Münster , † September 28, 2007 in Berlin ) was a German architect .
Life
Konrad Wohlhage studied architecture at the TU Munich (1975–1978) and at the TU Delft (1978–1983). In 1983 he got his diploma. From 1987 to 1990 he worked as a research assistant at the TU Berlin .
Together with Hilde Léon and Karl Schwarz, he organized the exhibition The Future of the Metropolis . The first successes in the competition led to the founding of his own architectural office léonwohlhage with Hilde Léon in 1987 . As a result of the collaboration with Siegfried Wernik, the office operated under the name Léon Wohlhage Wernik from 1994 to 2014 (since 2015 léonwohlhage again ).
Konrad Wohlhage was a sought-after judge for numerous national and international architecture competitions. From 1996 to 2000 he was a member of the design advisory board of the city of Münster and since 2000 of the design advisory board of the city of Munich. He was a member of the Association of German Architects (BDA). In addition to his work as an architect, Konrad Wohlhage was also active as an artist, whose drawings were shown in exhibitions.
The designs by Léon Wohlhage Wernik do not follow a superficial aesthetic language of forms, but rather they come to their form through critical reflection on the respective building task and a concept developed from it. The architects did not use the rather conservative-formalistic architectural language that had prevailed in Berlin since the 1990s. The principles of its architecture were developed by the architecture critic Manfred Sack u. a. with "the reflection of the place, the courage to contrast and elegant severity".
The work and the works of the architectural offices léonwohlhage and Léon Wohlhage Wernik have received numerous awards, such as the 1997 German Critics' Prize.
Konrad Wohlhage died in 2007 after a long, serious illness at the age of 53.
