Korb is a district of the town of Möckmühl in the Heilbronn district in Baden-Württemberg .
General
Korb is six kilometers north of Möckmühl am Hergstbach . The settlements Hagenbach and Dippach belong to the place. The total number of inhabitants is approx. 320. Neighboring in the northwest and in the north are the villages of Sennfeld and Leibenstadt , which belong to Adelsheim , in the southeast the city of Widdern and in the south at the confluence of Hergstbach and Jagst Ruchsen , which belongs to Möckmühl.
history
Korb was already mentioned as "Corbe" in documents dating from the Middle Ages . The name suggests a drained swamp area. A noble family from Korb is first documented in 1103, when Bucco de Corba appears among the witnesses of a donation to the Hirsau monastery . After his death, his property fell to his brother Sigeloch, who lived in Grettstadt near Schweinfurt and who bequeathed twelve farms in Korb to the Comburg monastery from this inheritance . Remnants of the walls of a small castle from the Middle Ages were discovered near the Korber Church .
The place came from the possession of the Lords of Berlichingen , who belonged to the Franconian knight circle, in 1806 to the Kingdom of Württemberg and was transferred to Baden in 1846 in connection with an exchange of territory . In 1934 Dippach and Hagenbach were incorporated into Korb. In 1939 394 inhabitants were counted, at the end of 1945 there were 393.
Korb was largely spared from war damage during the Second World War . At the Korber schoolhouse, which also housed the town hall until it was incorporated into Möckmühl in 1971, only minor damage from an American bullet can be seen, which - allegedly - got lost when Lampoldshausen was shot at .
On January 1, 1971, Korb was incorporated into Möckmühl together with its two hamlets, Dippach and Hagenbach, and thus moved from the Buchen district to the Heilbronn district.

Korb and the villages of Sennfeld and Leibenstadt, which belong to Adelsheim, form an independent Protestant parish.
A Jewish community existed in Korb until the beginning of the 20th century. A Jewish resident is mentioned for the first time in 1743. In 1833 the maximum number of 102 Jewish residents was counted in the place. In the synagogue in Korb , built in 1824 , there was a prayer hall (synagogue), a religious school, a teacher's apartment and a mikveh . From 1832 the community was a branch of the Jewish community of Olnhausen , after Korbs transferred to Baden to the rabbinate in Merchingen . Due to emigration and emigration, the size of the community decreased in the second half of the 19th century, so that the community was dissolved in 1903. The last Jews left the place in 1926. At least seven of the Jews born in Korb perished during the Nazi era.

Above Korb in the cemetery there is an evangelical tower choir with late Gothic wall paintings. The former synagogue is located in the village. The prominent buildings also include the school and town hall as well as the Landgasthof Krone.

The only public transport in Korb is a school bus route from Möckmühl to Widdern. The drive to Möckmühl takes about 10 minutes. Möckmühl has a junction on the A 81 between Würzburg and Heilbronn ( Stuttgart ). Möckmühl is a stop on the Regional Express Stuttgart – Würzburg ( Frankenbahn ).

The club area of the Möckmühl aviation club is located near the village. The Korb tug-of-war club , which held the German championship in tug-of-war , as well as the choir "Frohsinn Korb" and the table tennis club TTC Korb, founded in 1984, have existed since 1988 . There are village and tug of war festivals.
