Lists on the subject

The 9K135 Kornet ( Russian 9К135 Корнет , cornet ) is a Soviet anti-tank guided missile . The guided weapon is called 9M133 . The NATO code name is AT-14 Spriggan .

development

The 9K135 Kornet weapon system was designed for use against main battle tanks such as the Leopard 2 and M1 Abrams in the mid-1980s . The AT-14 was intended as a successor to the 9K111 Fagot and 9K113 bankruptcy . The system was presented to the public in October 1994 by the development company KBP . The first systems were probably delivered to the Russian armed forces in the same year. The improved version Kornet-EM was presented in 2011. The system is manufactured in the Wolsk arms factory .

technology

The 9M133 guided missiles are delivered from the factory in sealed GRP transport and launch containers. Firing can be done from a 9P163-1 tripod mount, the rocket being launched directly from its transport and launch container. The starting device can be transported and used by two people. In addition to the 1PN79-1 daylight target optics , the starter device is equipped with a thermal imaging device that enables target detection at a distance of up to 3,500 meters. In addition, it is possible to control two launch devices from one target device at the same time and thereby fight a target simultaneously with two missiles. The 9P163-2 version of the mount can be mounted on light off-road vehicles.

The 9P163M-1 Kornet-S tank destroyer is based on the chassis of the BMP-3 , while the 9P162 Kornet-T tank destroyer is based on the newer chassis of the BMD-3 . The tracked vehicles have day and night optics. The missile launch takes place from a launcher arm that can be rotated through 360 degrees with two missile containers. A magazine for 16 guided missiles is located under the launcher arm. The reloading process takes place automatically.

The Kornet-EM version was presented in 2011. The system is installed on the GAZ-2330 off-road vehicle . Two independently operable arms each with four guided missiles and target optics are installed on the vehicle roof. The vehicle can fight two targets at the same time with two guided missiles each.

For the armored BTR-80 and BMP-1 and small watercraft exists under the name Kliwer a turret with four missiles, a 30 mm automatic cannon type 2AT72 (4000 meter range, 350 to 400 rounds per minute) and a 7.62 -mm machine gun of the PKT type . When fully ammunitioned, the tower weighs 1.5 tons. It has a fire control computer and similar aiming systems as the tripod launch device. The tower can be rotated 360 degrees and has an elevation range of −15 to +60 degrees.

The 9K135 Kornet is controlled by means of a laser beam emitted by the 1P45 rifle scope of the 9P163 mount. The laser guide beam represents a modulated and coded bundle of individual beams which together form a coordinate system that can be read by the guided missile, with the aid of which the course corrections are calculated in the guided missile. The operator keeps the target in sight and the guided missile steers itself so that it flies along the line of sight towards the target with the help of the laser guide beams. It is possible to aim next to the target first in order not to let the laser warning devices of the targeted tank trigger early.

The Kornet-EM guided missiles have a seeker head with automatic laser target search. Kornet-EM thus works according to the fire-and-forget principle. The Kornet EM guided missiles are fired on a semi-ballistic trajectory and thus achieve a greater range than the standard version. Due to the steep approach angle, Kornet-EM is difficult to combat with protective systems that are active at a distance .

The standard warhead is a shaped charge or tandem shaped charge that can penetrate 1,100–1,300 millimeters of homogeneous armor steel ( RHA ). In addition to this warhead, there are thermobaric , fragmentation and fragmentation incendiary warheads for use against soft targets and fortifications.

Calls

At the end of December 2016, the Turkish armed forces in northern Syria lost one Sabra (M60T) main battle tank and ten Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks , six of them from 9K135 Kornet anti-tank guided missiles, in the fight against the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia near Al-Bab .

On November 12, 2018, Hamas used this weapon to destroy a bus in Israel from the Gaza Strip .
