The Krumbach in the north-eastern Palatinate Forest and in the northern Front Palatinate ( Rhineland-Palatinate ) is a 6.8 km long stream and a right tributary of the Eckbach . It is known in the region because in the area of its upper course it seeps into the subsoil in places and then reappears.

course

The Krumbach rises at about 360  m above sea level. NHN in a Kerbtal , which runs entirely within the Leininger Sporn , the northeastern foothills of the Middle Palatinate Forest , and which is called Krumbachtal after the waters . The source is located about 2 km southwest of Weisenheim am Berg on the boundary of an exclave that belongs to Herxheim am Berg . Only 300 m northeast of the source, the Krumbach forms the Ungeheuersee , which extends to an altitude of 357  m and is classified as a natural monument with list number ND-7332-195 . At the highest water level, its area reaches a maximum of 0.4 hectares.

After leaving the lake, the Krumbach flows in windings northwards. It takes in the Bannwaldbach (length about 700 m) and the brook from Haseldellbrunnen (about 450 m) as its only tributaries from two left side valleys . After a good 1000 m, the Krumbach initially disappears into the forest floor.

Then the direction of travel turns to the northeast. Further sections of the Krumbach come to the surface again. The valley extends from the Krumbach spring about 4.5 km to the Haardtrand below the local community of Battenberg .

After entering the hill country on the German Wine Route , the Krumbach flows for about 2 km through vineyards . It passes under the state roads  517 ( Bobenheim am Berg - Kleinkarlbach ) and 520 (Kleinkarlbach - Kirchheim ). The lower course has been straightened at right angles in some places and sometimes piped, for example on the northeast edge of Kleinkarlbach. There the Krumbach flows from the right into the Eckbach , a left tributary of the Rhine .

reachability

Headwaters and upper reaches of Krumbach are only about hiking trails accessible and on forest roads that are not for the general motor vehicle are traffic permitted example of Battenberg or Bobenheim am Berg by the Krumbachtal of Weisenheim am Berg from across the Vallunga and Leistadt over the Sand valley . The lower reaches partly along agricultural paths.
