The Kunak District is an administrative district in the Malaysian state of Sabah . The administrative seat is the city of Kunak . The Kunak District is part of the Tawau Division area to which the Kunak, Lahad Datu , Semporna and Tawau districts belong.
Demographics
According to the last census in 2010, the population of Kunak District is 61,094. It consists mostly of Bajau and Bugis . As in many other cities in Sabah, there are significant numbers of illegal immigrants from the nearby Philippines , especially from Sulu and Mindanao , who are not recorded in the population statistics.
Administrative headquarters
The administrative seat of the district is the city of Kunak.
Kunak was previously a sub-district within the Lahad Datu District and was granted status as an independent district on June 1, 1981.
Structure of the district
The district is divided into two municipal administrations (mukim) :
- Mukim Pangi with the settlements ( Kampung ) Airport Bt. 10, Bagiang, Cenderawasih, Getah, Giram, Hampilan, Jaya Baru, Kadazan, Kansuri, Lama Baru Mostyn, Mostyn, Pangi, Pangi Hujung, Pengkalan, Sapang Air, Selamat, Skim Kokos , Sungai Atas, Sungai Langgas, Telaga Tujuh
- Mukim Madai with the settlements ( kampung ) Asli Baru, Buang Sayang, Cina, Dasar Baru, Dasar Lama, Kabog, Kunak Darat, Kunak Jaya, Kunak Kecil, Kunak Tiga, Lormalong, Madai, Pangkalan Madai, Simpang Empat, Ulu Madai
